How Basalt Converts Your WordPress Site, Step by Step

A plain-English walkthrough of every stage in a Basalt conversion, from entering your URL to going live. No work required from you.

You enter your URL. Basalt does the rest. The conversion runs, you see your new site at a preview address, you approve it, and the switch happens. Your current site stays live the whole time and nothing changes until you say so. Here is exactly what happens at each step.

Step 1: You enter your URL

You give us your web address. That is the only thing we need from you to start.

Our scanner looks at your site. It maps every page, every image, every link. It records your colors, your fonts, and your layout. This happens automatically.

You do not send us credentials. You do not give us hosting access. You just hand us the address.

Step 2: The conversion runs

Basalt builds your new site from everything the scanner found.

Every page transfers. Every paragraph, photo, and heading moves over. Your inner pages come across faithfully, with the same colors, same layout, and same fonts you have now.

Your homepage gets a free modern polish as part of every conversion. This is not a guess at what you want. It is a starting point you will review and approve.

Your contact forms are rebuilt and tested. Your Google Analytics tracking transfers. Your domain does not change.

This stage happens automatically. You are not involved. There is nothing for you to do.

Step 3: You see your new site before anything goes live

When the conversion is ready, you get a preview URL.

You visit it. You check every page. You compare it to your current site. If you see anything wrong, you tell us and we fix it. If you want a change to the homepage polish, you say so.

Nothing switches to live until you say yes. This is not a formality. Your approval is the gate.

Step 4: You approve it

Once you are happy with what you see, you give us the go-ahead.

Only after your approval do we prepare the DNS switch. You are in control of when that happens.

Step 5: The DNS switches

Two records change. Your A record and CNAME record now point to your Basalt site. Your MX records, which control your email, are never touched.

DNS propagation takes 0 to 48 hours. During that window, some visitors may briefly see your old site. This is normal and temporary. It is just the internet catching up to the change.

Your old WordPress site still exists on your old hosting. It runs quietly in the background until you decide to cancel that hosting. There is no rush.

Step 6: You are live

Once propagation is complete, visitors land on your Basalt site.

It is faster than your WordPress site. It has nothing to update. There is nothing to hack. No plugin vulnerabilities, no security patches due, no hosting renewals to manage beyond your one monthly subscription.

Your editor access comes in your email. One screen with your editable content. No dashboard maze.

The conversion is done. You are on the other side.

Quick answers

Do I have to do any of the technical work myself?

No. You enter your URL, review the converted site, and approve it. Everything else is handled.

What happens to my live site while the conversion runs?

Nothing. Your WordPress site stays live and untouched the whole time. Visitors see no change until you approve the switch.

How long does the whole process take?

Conversion typically completes within a few days. After you approve, DNS propagation takes 0 to 48 hours. Most owners are live within a week.

What if I want changes before I approve?

Tell us and we make them. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

Sixty seconds. Zero jargon.
