Does Basalt Affect My Email During the Website Move?
No. Email runs on MX records. Basalt only changes A and CNAME records. Your email works normally before, during, and after the conversion.
No. Your email is completely unaffected by a Basalt conversion. Email and website are separate services that share a domain name but use different DNS records. Basalt changes only the records that point to your website and never touches the records that route your email.
Here is how this works and how to verify it yourself.
Why are email and website separate?
Your domain name is like a street address. Different buildings can share that street address. Your website and your email both use your domain, but they are different services pointing to different places.
DNS records tell the internet where to look for each service. Your website is controlled by A and CNAME records. Your email is controlled by MX records. These are different record types and they operate independently.
Changing your A and CNAME records moves your website. Your MX records stay exactly where they are. Your email never moves.
What does Basalt actually change?
During a conversion, Basalt changes two types of records:
- A records: These point your domain to your website server.
- CNAME records: These handle subdomains like www.
That is all. Nothing else changes.
Your MX records, which tell the internet where to deliver email for your domain, are never touched. They do not change before, during, or after the conversion.
Does this apply to my email service?
Yes. It does not matter whether you use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, your hosting provider’s email, or any other service. Your email runs on your MX records. Those records are on your domain. Basalt does not touch them.
Your email worked before the conversion. It works during the conversion. It works after the conversion. The platform change is invisible to your email.
How do I verify this myself?
You can check your MX records using any free DNS lookup tool. Search for “DNS lookup” and enter your domain name. Look for the MX records section. Check those records before and after the conversion. They will be identical.
Your email provider can also confirm. If you use Google Workspace, log in and check that your mail is flowing normally. If you use Microsoft 365, the admin panel shows mail delivery status.
What if something goes wrong with email after the switch?
It would not be related to the Basalt conversion. MX records are not changed, so any email issue after the switch has a different cause.
That said, if you ever have a concern about email during your review period, contact us and we will help you verify that your MX records are intact. It takes about 60 seconds to confirm.

Quick answers
Will my email stop working when Basalt switches my site?
No. Email runs on MX records. Basalt only changes A and CNAME records. Your MX records are never touched.
What is the difference between website records and email records?
Your domain has several types of DNS records. A and CNAME records point to your website. MX records route your email. They are separate. Changing one does not affect the other.
How can I verify my email is safe after the switch?
Run a free DNS lookup on your domain and check that your MX records are unchanged. Any DNS lookup tool will show you this. Your email provider can also confirm.
Does this apply to Gmail, Outlook, or other hosted email?
Yes. Regardless of which email service you use, as long as your MX records are unchanged, your email continues to work normally.
