From start to live, most owners complete a Basalt conversion in under a week. The conversion itself takes a few days. Your review can take as long as you need. After you approve, the DNS switch propagates in 0 to 48 hours. Here is the full timeline.
How long does the conversion take?
After you enter your URL, the scanner analyzes your site and the conversion runs. This typically completes within a few days.
You are not waiting on a human to start the work. The conversion is automated. It runs, and when it is ready, you get a preview URL.
How long does the review take?
That is up to you. There is no deadline.
Some owners review their site in an afternoon. Others take a week. If you are busy, you come back when you have time. If you want to be thorough, take your time. The preview site stays up until you are ready to approve.
Your live WordPress site keeps running normally while you review. Visitors are not affected by how long your review takes.
How long does DNS propagation take?
After you approve your converted site, two DNS records change. The internet needs time to learn about this change. That time is called DNS propagation.
Propagation takes 0 to 48 hours. In practice, many sites propagate in a few hours or less. Some take longer.
During propagation, some visitors may briefly see your old site instead of your new one. This depends on which DNS server they are connecting through and how recently it was updated. It is temporary and resolves on its own.
Your email is not affected at any point. Email runs on MX records, which never change.
What is the full timeline from start to live?
Here is a typical week:
- Day 1: You enter your URL.
- Days 1 to 3: Conversion runs and preview is prepared.
- Days 3 to 5: You review the preview and request any changes.
- Day 5 or 6: You approve the converted site.
- Days 6 to 7: DNS propagates. Your new site goes live.
This is a typical timeline. It can go faster if your review is quick. It can take longer if you want more time to review or request multiple rounds of changes. Either is fine.
